Update #10

Friends and family,

A quick update on Dad:

Dad started to show signs of pneumonia this weekend, with a 102 degree fever starting on Saturday. He was placed on three antibiotics on Sunday and tests were taken. The doctors confirmed today that he does have pneumonia and reduced him to a single antibiotic. He has been fever-free for 24 hours. While we are a little frustrated by this, the doctors told us early on to expect it. Burn patients are especially susceptible to infection because of their suppressed immune systems.

Dad also experienced atrial flutter (AFL) after his dressing change on Sunday morning (the first full dressing change since his surgery on Thursday). AFL is slightly worse than atrial fibrillation. The doctors used low energy shocks (cardioversion) to stop the AFL, and then placed him on a drip-type medication to help ensure his stability. He experienced AFL again on Sunday night when the medication was reduced to a smaller volume, but doctors increased the amount as soon as this happened. His heart has been well since 2am Monday morning.

Doctors placed dad back on the ventilator full-time, but expect to start taking him off once the pneumonia has passed.

Please keep dad in your thoughts. He is putting up an amazing fight – we’re proud of you, dad!!

Hi guys! Thanks for the continued updates, especially regarding pneumonia and heart. The saying goes, “If it’s not one thing, it’s another” should be a bumper sticker on his bed for the next several months, because that’s how is recovery will ebb and flow. Hearts and prayers are with all of you. Please whisper in his ear that “wife #2” and Paulee say “Hi buddy”!!

    Blessings, Paul & Sandee & family <3<3

Colin is always in my prayers and heart and so are both of you. This might be a set back, but I know that it will be just a temporary one. Your father has come a long way and we know he has a long way to go. What I have read about Colin is that he is a real fighter. Stubborn but a fighter. I will be at his side all the way in prayer.

God place your arms around the MacDiarmid family, protect them and give them strength.God put your arms around Colin to comfort him. Place your healing hands over all his grafts so they can heal. Kiss his eyes softly and his forehead so he may rest. Colin, rest my dear friend. I’m here for you.

God Bless the hands of his caregivers. They are doing a great job. In his name I pray. Amen

    Love you plus some.

    Janet

    Love Janet

Colin was a neighbor of ours years ago when he lived on Norman Rd. We just loved having him as a neighbor! What a sweet, kind man. We were so sad to hear of this accident. He is in our prayers and we send well wishes to your family. Colin’s a strong man!
