Friends and family,
We just received a call from Dr. Clemens, Dad is improving!!. This is a great day…
Dad is coming off of CRRT (kidney assistance) and will start coming off the ventilator (again) by the end of the day. His urine output has returned to normal levels and he has been doing much of the work when it comes to breathing. The doctors will start him in cycles where he will be off the ventilator for 30 minutes and on for four hours.
His heart has remained in normal sinus rhythm for several days, so the doctors feel the atrial fibrillation was a result of the pneumonia. His antibiotic treatment is complete, so we’re excited to have that episode behind us.
The grafts on his chest, abdomen and arms “look fantastic”; almost 100% of the skin placed is still there. Dr. Clemens expects to take him back to surgery on Tuesday, where she will graft one or both of his legs. The remaining spots on his hands and fingers are lower priority and will be grafted later.
The right side of his face is completely healed. There is some bunching of skin around his upper eyelid because of the full skin graft placed there, but the rest of that side healed on its own with minimal contracture (tightening of the skin due to the third degree burns). The left side may need a small graft on his cheek where the burn is still open. The graft on the upper/lower eyelid looks good.
Go dad, go!!!

Colin,Sr.,Colin II and Ian,
I can’t tell you how happy I am to hear such fantastic news about your dad. It goes to show u if people pray in such large groups God listens. My heart goes out to Colin II and Ian for being such great sons and what they had to endure. I believe no sons or family should have to go through such pain making dissension pertaining to their father health. I hear that Colin, Sr. is stubborn and I’m sure that helps and makes him fight.
May God Hold Colin, Sr.close to comfort him and kiss his eyes and forehead so he can rest . May he lay his hands on all his grafts so they may heal and over his heart so he stays in sinus rhythm. May God give the MacDiarmid family strength to endure what lies ahead. May God Bless the hands of all the caregivers that take care of Colin, Sr. In his name I pray. Amen
Colin,Sr. I will be here for you and praying for your recovery. Can’t wait to see your smile again and talk to you.
Love you, Janet
